One of the most common questions I get is about my skincare routine, so I’m sharing some of my faves and the best natural skincare products here today.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I got into nutrition in the first place, because I had terrible acne. I tried all the conventional routes – over the counter benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid cleansers and treatments, Proactiv, multiple dermatologists and prescription medications…but nothing worked until I changed my diet.
I am so happy and relieved my skin is finally clear, and rarely breaks out (the only time I ever get a pimple anymore, is if I eat something I know I shouldn’t!)
While I do consider my diet to be the most important aspect of my skincare routine, I use exclusively natural and non-toxic products, as well, and my skin has NEVER looked or felt better. Remember skin has two sides – inside and outside – and we need to nourish them both.
Best Natural Skincare Products
Best Natural Makeup Remover
In my opinion, there is no better makeup remover than pure jojoba oil. If you wear foundation, this is a necessary step before face wash, as face wash alone typically is unable to fully remove face makeup. So, step one at the end of the night for me, is pouring jojoba oil on a few cotton rounds, and removing any face and eye makeup. It is is extremely gentle on the skin, and does a good job of removing everything, without clogging pores.
Way back, I used to use coconut oil, but found that it was too heavy and greasy, and my pores were getting clogged. Jojoba is much lighter and won’t clog pores (in fact it’s used in many moisturizers).
Best Natural Face Wash
Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser + Dermafoliant Powder
I love Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser + their Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant. I was introduced to this powerful duo a few years ago by my facialist, and I won’t use any other cleanser on my skin. This seriously makes your skin perfectly soft and smooth, and doesn’t over-dry like so many cleansers do. In my opinion, this is the best natural face wash.
You put one pump of the cleanser in your palm, and then a couple shakes of the powder, mix it together and apply to your face in circles with both hands for 1 full minute. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
Best Natural Serums
Hourglass Cosmetics Equilibrium Serum
I got a sample of this highly effective serum tried it out, and was hooked. The Hourglass Cosmetics Equilibrium Serum is pricey, but I could see a difference in how my skin looked and felt overnight. It was softer, smoother, brighter, and just looked more nourished. It is expensive, so I don’t use it all the time, but if you want something super effective and quick working, this is it.
According to the company, “The Equilibrium® Skincare Collection was inspired by the science behind phosphatidylglycerol, the youth lipid responsible for cell regeneration in the human body. Phosphatidylglycerol, discovered in high concentrations in amniotic fluid, is found to normalize skin cell growth and ensure cells are differentiating at a healthy rate. Using biomimetic technology, a plant-derived form was created to deliver the same remarkable benefits for skincare.”
In terms of this nighttime serum in particular, they add: “This revolutionary nighttime re-balancing treatment contains a powerful family of ingredients designed to counteract the visible signs of aging – resulting in radiant, healthy-looking skin created from within. The serum is created using an ultrasonication process, producing microscopic oil droplets which deliver the ingredients into the skin at the optimal level.”
Primally Pure Fancy Face
Made from over a dozen potent natural and organic oils, Primally Pure Fancy Face Serum is an effective and gentle way to improve your skin’s appearance. Whether you’re looking for something anti-aging, or want something to deal with skin imperfections, such as acne, eczema, or redness, this oil can help. It can reduce scarring, reduce lines and wrinkles, and brighten the complexion. The oils it contains have both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it great for acne prone skin, too. I always pair this with their Beauty Cream, below. This is much more affordable than Hourglass.
Best Natural Moisturizer
Primally Pure Beauty Cream
I am obsessed with Primally Pure’s Beauty Cream which is the best moisturizer I have ever tried. Made with a handful of simple, all natural ingredients, my skin has never looked better since I started using this. Your skin literally drinks it in. While it’s seriously moisturizing, it is not heavy at all, and it works well in both summer and winter months. This is a game changer.
Best Spot Treatment
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a medicine cabinet staple, and I use it for seemingly a million uses. One of which, is on breakouts, especially if I picked at it (which you should never do, but hey, I get that it happens). It has antimicrobial properties, so it will keep any opened wounds -including a popped pimple – clean. It also helps it disappear a lot faster. Just a drop will do the job – it’s highly concentrated.
